Privacy policy
Effective date: 3 April 2025. This policy explains what personal information is collected when you visit booksbydaphnelenben.com, why it is collected, and the choices you have about it.
Who we are

The company manages the literary affairs, correspondence and events of the novelist Daphne Len Ben. For any privacy question, write to gary@booksbydaphnelenben.com (attn: Gary Osbarn).
What data is collected
Information you send directly
If you email gary@booksbydaphnelenben.com, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in the message — typically your name and the text of your letter. The contact form on this site does not transmit or store anything; it exists only to direct you to email. If you write by post, we hold the letter and your return address.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, ours is served from a web server that automatically records standard technical information when a page is requested: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring address, and your browser and device type. These logs are used solely to keep the site running and to understand, in aggregate, which pages are read.
Cookies and local storage
This site uses a small number of cookies and your browser's local storage, principally to remember the choice you make in the cookie consent banner. Details of every category are set out in our cookie policy.
Embedded Google Maps
The contact page embeds a map provided by Google Maps. When that page loads, your browser connects to Google's servers, and Google may set its own cookies and collect information about your visit — including your IP address and device information — under Google's own privacy policy, even if you do not interact with the map. We do not control or receive that data.
Microsoft Advertising
Pages of this site may display advertising served by Microsoft Advertising (the platform behind ads on Bing and its partner network). Where such ads appear, Microsoft and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads and, where permitted, to personalize them. How that works, and how to opt out, is described in our advertising policy and in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
How we use information
We use the information described above only to: read and answer correspondence; manage event and book-club requests; keep the website secure and functioning; and understand readership of the site in aggregate. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share correspondence with anyone outside the company except where the law requires it.
Data retention
Email correspondence is retained for as long as it remains useful to the conversation and to our literary records, and in no case longer than seven years. Server logs are rotated and deleted on a cycle of no more than twelve months. Cookie and local-storage lifetimes are listed in the cookie policy.
Your rights
You may ask us at any time to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to provide a copy of it, to correct it, or to delete it. You may also withdraw cookie consent at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. To exercise any of these rights, email gary@booksbydaphnelenben.com with the subject line "Privacy request". We respond within thirty days. Deleting correspondence means we can no longer answer it, but it is your letter and your choice.
Children
This site is a literary website directed at adult readers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under thirteen.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page for a full month after they take effect.
